Beautiful Cupid Decorated Silver Drageoir By Naudin~Sold~

Beautiful Antique French Silver and Crystal Drageoir by ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ LN NAUDIN.

In France we call them ‘Drageoir’ or ‘Confiturier’, but the only official name is a ‘Confiturier’ (Hence a Jam container), and we can confirm that originally they were only thought of, and used, as Ceremonial Sugar Bowls.

The theme on this drageoir is very sweet and delicate.
The body is tulip shaped, with 4 registers decorating the main part.
On the front and back a round medaillion held up by floral scrolls and pine cones shows a young cupid holding a large ram.
The side tableaux show the same floral scrolls but the medallions show this time around the face of the little Cupid with his chubby cheeks and ringlets..

The Handles are decorated with acanthus leaves and cornucopias.
The pedestal is square, resting on four silver pearls.
While the side of the pedestal are decorated with a geometric design.

The lid is decorated by a spray of laurel leaves ans shells, holding up an acanthus wreath that served for a finial.
The bowl insert is clear cut crystal, beautifully worked into diamond shapes…just gorgeous….and intact!

The Hallmark is Michael Angelo (Poinçon au Vieillard )-1st title (950/1000) – Hence 1819 to 1838– Paris
