Lovely Silver ‘Rocaille’ Open Salt Caddies Set ~Sold~

A truly charming set!

These two lovely Antique French Silver open salt caddies, seem to be brand new, but really date back to the end of the Napoleon III Era, hence to the 1880s.
The 2 silver salt caddies are worked in beautiful ‘Rocaille’ style with garlands of peonies and leaves set in a swirling pattern.
The interior of the caddies are coated in gold or ‘vermeillé’ which shows through the original crystal inserts.

Both the caddies and the inserts are intact and show no scratches or marks. Two sweet little spoons complete the set and are original to it– again adopting the rocaille  style, with the spoon  shaped like a seashell.
The set is in its original box which is in excellent condition and has a very innovative opening in the shape of a doorknob which was patented by the maker.

The Hallmark is Minerve -1st title – 1838 -1919 -Paris.

The Makers Mark is for HACK Charles and HOURDEQUIN Achille and shows two ‘H’ separated by two crossed hammers topped by a star.
They were active between 1884 and 1902, in Paris.
