Magnificent Antique French Crystal and Silver Jardinière in the Restauration Style

The ‘Jardinière’, or Flower Centre table if you would, was used in a variety of ways in order to embellish the table, by either setting flowers or fruits or other items that could enhance the set up.

The Restoration Period, which lasted from 1815 to 1830, enjoyed an Art form that was in large part a reaction against the ostentation and pomp of the Empire. Out were the monumental decorations, in was subtlety and refinement.
Certain motifs used during the Empire period were kept, yet simplified. Among them the Cornocuppia, Palmettos and Lyra, all made lighter and more stylized.
The Art of Crystal and Glass reached its height during that period. Objects moulded in Crystal or diamond cut were lightly circled in Bronze or Silver to a stunning effect.

Such is the case with our beautiful Jardinière!
The crystal is absolutely wondrous, with a heavy cut star at the bottom while the sides are decorated with intaglio cut Cornucopias, laurel garlands and Music instruments.
The Gilt Silver band circling the bottom of the crystal vessel is delicately carved with palmettos.

The Crystal insert is original and intact.
Truly magnificent!
The work is exquisite and extremely refined, just gorgeous really!….

I use my jardinière during dinners with either peonies or wilder plants and the effect is incredible!
But you can use it in many other ways: to present fruits of course or sweets, to present caviar, or simply to decorate with a free standing candle in the middle of the table.
