Rare 18th Century Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon By Jorrez~Sold~

A very rare and Delicate Antique French Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon by Philippe JORREZ.

The bowl of the spoon is in beautiful ‘repercé’ motif showing a design that is found in the Provinces and most specifically in Brittany.
In this model the center of the spoon bowl is decorated with a crisscrossing network of braces bracketing a quadrifoliate design.
That design is surrounded by intertwined foliage scrolls.
The end of the handle shows a simple double line.

The work is extremely refined and the piece is in very good condition.
It is just a beautiful design. Typical of the early to mid 18th century in Saint Malo..
Lovely to use to sprinkle sugar over fresh strawberries per example!
The width given above is that of the spoon’s bowl.

The Makers Mark, which is shown on photo number 6, is for Philippe JORREZ, one of Saint Malo’s most sought after Spoon Makers, that was part of the Saint Malo Dynasty of Spoon Makers.
Philippe JORREZ registered his Mark on September 15th 1731 and canceled it around 1751.
His Mark shows a P, I and Z surrounding a crowned Hermine (Ermine).
