XVII Century French School Ink and Brown Wash Drawing Of Christ and the Disciples.

This beautifully executed drawing shows The Christ standing in front of his disciples and pointing towards a village seen in the far horizon. His stance is full of Majesty, with his robes flowing around him and his gaze.

The scene is probably taken from Luke, Jesus gathers 72 disciples and sends them out to the villages in groups of two to spread the ‘Good Word’ and tell the villagers that the Kingdom of God was close to them.

The disciples are seen listening intently to Jesus Christ in various pose of awe…
Two shepherds close by point to the nearest village.

The strokes are powerful and beautifully executed, typical of the 17th century and very early 18th century.
The drawing is framed in a gorgeous 18th Century period gilt wood frame. The mat is also original.

The Drawing measures 7 inches long by 4.50 inches high.
The Gilt Wood frame is 11 inches long and 9 inches high.
