18th Century French School Ink and Pastel Wash Of Bacchus and Ariane.

Taking cues from Mythology this scene depicts a reclining young Bacchus with Ariane after he rescues her from the Island of Naxos, following her rejection by Thesee.
The drawing is completed by a young cupid gazing at them from below.

Done in strokes of black and red ink, with highlights of chalk, the drawing is typical of the French Romantic school on the late 18th Century.
The drawing measures 9.44 inches large by 13.77 inches high
It was acquired in Aix in November 2018.
