18th Century Silver Coffee Pot By Boutheroue Desmarais~Sold~

Beautiful 18th Century French Silver Selfish Coffee Pot, or Verseuse Marabout By ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ Noël César Boutheroue-Desmarais.

Often called a Coquemar, or a Verseuse (pourer) Marabout, due to its heavier on the bottom shape, this lovely piece is absolutely beautifully worked!
The body is decorated with applied silver, which is chiseled and ‘repoussé’ to form floral scrolls and rose garlands.
The finial is seashell shaped and the side handle, made of rosewood, bears the same floral scrolls in its mass. The spout is sweetly duck bill shaped and the lid attachement shows a beautifully carved seashell.

The piece was carved with an MB Monogram at a later date.

We can go further in time to date precisely this piece to 1787 thanks to the perfect markings on it!

As mentioned the marking are perfect and show the following:

The Leaf pictured with a 4 on the right hand side stands for the year 1787

Photo # 7:
Shows the crowned P used by Fermier Général Henri Clavel in Paris starting November 12th 1788.
Hence the piece was sold once taxes were paid in 1788!

Photo # 8:
Shows the Makers Mark for ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ Noël César BOUTHEROUE-DESMARAIS who registered his mark in Paris on September 12th 1764 and worked up to 1793.
