Elegant Antique French Silver Bread Basket By Canaux~Sold~

Elegant Antique French Silver Bread Basket by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Paul CANAUX.
This charming find is worked in the very elegant ‘Regency’ Style.

The Basket is oval shaped with a poly-lobed decorated border that is lightly gadrooned.
The second register is carved with regency style decorations and worked in what we call in France an ‘Amatit’ design which consists of dulling out part of the design in order to give it more depth in the contrast with the shinier parts.

It is a lovely object, simple yet refined, and easy to use.
You can use it to display bread of course, but also Danishes or muffins.
The basket has a light usage scratch mark at the bottom.

The Hallmark is Minerve -1st title (950/1000) – 1838 -1911 –Paris
