Antique French Vermeil Louis XVI Style Surtout by Boin Taburet

A Lovely Antique French Vermeil or Gilt Silver ‘Jardinière’ or Centre Table on its gilt metal plateau by Maître ‘Orfèvre’ Boin-Taburet.

The ‘Jardinière’ or Flower center table, if you would, was used in a variety of ways in order to embellish the table, by either setting flowers or fruits or other items that could enhance the set up.
But you can also use it in many other ways: to present sweets, cookies or simply to decorate with a free standing candle in the middle of the table.

This particular piece is rare because of the beautiful 24 carat gold wash applied.
Decorated in the louis XVI Style, it shows a fluted motif and laurel leaf molding, and it rests on 4 spinning top shaped feet.
The Jardinière is oval shaped and has a gilt brass interior which comes out to better clean the piece.
The whole piece is lovely.

The plateau is decorated with a Gold washed metal circle with a reed and ribbon motif with a oak backing and a perfect mirror front.

The measures given above are those of the ensemble. The measures of the Jardinière alone are: 11 inches long x 7 3/8 inches wide and 3 5/8 inches high.

The Makers Mark shows both the Mark of BOIN TABURET, and the maker of H Frères & Cie (Henry Frères).
The mark is for ‘Maîtres Orfèvres’ Georges BOIN and Emile TABURET. After individual successful careers they joined forces and registered their joint mark 1873. They went on to win a gold medal for their beautiful pieces in 1889 during the Paris World Fair.
They worked at 3 Rue Pasquier near the Madeleine Area of Paris.
In 1900, Georges Boin went into partnership with the silversmith Henry, under the company name Boin et Henry orfèvres, hence the double marking on our pieces..
The firm was known as Henry Frères et Cie, 3 rue Pasquier, Paris.
