The upper and lower end of the register is decorated with silver pearls.
The handles are done in Acanthus leaves scrolls.

The lid is slightly dome shapes and decorated with rosettes and laurel leaves, while the finial showcases a bunch of wild strawberries.
The cobalt blue insert is in perfect condition no chips or scratches. The silver gallery is in perfect condition.

The piece is marked both on the body and on the lid as required.
It was created in Lille during the old Fermiers Generaux system.
The Year is outlined by the Swallow Mark which signaled a reform of the system in the north of France and was used in Lille in 1784.

The Makers Mark is for ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ DV who’s larger mark was registered as ELDV and who worked in Lille in 1784.
The DV Mark appears on the lid while the ELDV appears on the body of the sugar casket.
Unfortunately, only his initials have gone down in history and the records of the city do not hold his full name.
