Beautiful 18th Century French Statue Of The Immaculate Conception

A Beautiful Antique French Madonna 18th Century Wooden Statue.

This gorgeous 18th Century wooden Statue of The Immaculate Conception, stands an impressive 20 inches tall.
In solid oak it would probably have been once painted, though no paint remains today.

The Virgin Mary is here represented at the Immaculate Conception, standing over the serpent that represents at that point all evil that she conquers with her purity.

Her face is beautifully carved, and she seems to cast a tender and pensive look. The details on her hair are particularly lovely as shown on the photos.
The movement given to the dress by the wood carver is lovely, full of life and so is the blessed Virgin’s expression.

The statue stands on a wooden pedestal dome which symbolizes the world and is carved in the typical manner of the early 18th century with a draped design.
There are some minor losses due to age, but the statue is in very good shape.

A gorgeous example of Religious Art in the 18th century in central France.
