Beautiful Antique French Silver Ewer By E Ernie ~ Sold~

An absolutely Beautiful Antique French Silver and Cut Crystal Ewer by Édouard ERNIE.

In French we call them ‘Aiguière’ and this one is particularly lovely.
It is distinguished by its fine workmanship, elegant form, harmonious proportions and its beautiful decoration.

The ornate base showcases four charming carved silver dolphins on a round base, while the lower part of the crystal vessel is completely covered by a beautiful Silver décor.
Spanning half of the lower part of the Ewer it shows silver acanthus leaves as well as laurel sprigs extending on silver medallions.

The crystal itself is worked with intaglio engraved floral decorations as well wheel cut geometric patterns.
The collar is beautifully circled by a silver floral décor with acanthus leaves chutes and silver ribbons holding up rose garlands.
The handle is worked with acanthus leaf scrolls and the lid is topped by an acanthus leaf knob.

Width given above is that of the crystal body at its largest point.
Length is taken at the furthest part of the handle.

Truly a beautiful piece, typical of the red wine ‘Aiguieres’ so popular in the mid to late 1800s, particularly remarquable by its larger size.
It is intact, no losses to the silver and no marks on the crystal –just beautiful!
