Beautiful Pair Of Regency Style French Silver Candlesticks By Odiot

A very beautiful Pair of Torches or Candlesticks in French Silver decorated in the Regency Style by Gustave Odiot.

These solid silver Candlesticks are modelled after ones that were done during the eighteenth century by Master Silversmith Alexis LOIR III, around 1740.
They rest on a curved base chiseled with a frieze of oves and darts.
The upper part of the umbilicus is chiseled by a decoration of mantling that recall the décor of the binnacles, both typical of the style loved during the French Regency time.
The shaft is decorated with falls of flowers ending with large shells.

The base are weighed with oak blocs that are removable.
They are in wonderful shape both have their bobèche and are truly lovely.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1, 1st Title Silver (950/1000), 1838 -1919

The Makers Mark is for Maître Orfèvre Jean Baptiste Gustave ODIOT, usually known as Gustave Odiot, and bears the O topping a litten oil lamp.
Gustave ODIOT born in 1823 was the last of the Odiot Dynasty to bear the name.
His reputation probably topped all of them apart from Jean Baptiste Claude ODIOT (his great grand father and Mastersilversmith to Napoleon the 1st).
Gustave ODIOT was heralded as being the THE Silversmith to Royalty starting 1856. His work was found in all the world Royal houses. He became the official Master silversmith to the Imperial House of Russia.
He also created one of the grandest services ever produced by the House of Odiot, an incredible 3000 gold pieces for Saïd Pacha from the Royal House of Egypt.
The pieces created by the House of ODIOT adorn the most important private collections, but also the collections of the most prestigious public institutions in France such as Musée du Louvre, the Musée des Arts Décoratif, but also abroad such as the MET in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
