Beautiful Silver & Crystal Decanter By Haek & Hourdequin ~Sold~

A beautiful 19th century French Silver and Crystal Decanter or ‘Carafe’, by Charles HAEK and Achille HOURDEQUIN.

As it stands a little higher then the usual decanter, we would be more inclined to think it is a Wine Carafe.
The Crystal has been worked in the Intaglio style (The images are engraved into the crystal) with beautiful ribbons and flower garlands, as well as wheel cut to give more definition.
The Silver top is very elegant with a laurel wreath circling the lower part of the silver and a rounded band at the mouth of the decanter. The topper is also made of Silver with a crystal end and carries a gadroon design. Quite amazingly the crystal insert of the topper is intact.

The crystal part of the decanter rests on a circle of silver to give it more stability, and the bottom is wheel cut to represent a star The work is absolutely stunning and the piece is in brilliant condition with no chips or marks.

The width given above is taken at the larger part of the crystal.

The Makers Mark is for HAEK Charles and HOURDEQUIN Achille and shows two ‘H’ separated by two crossed hammers topped by a star. They were active between 1884 and 1902.
