Charming French Silver Louis XV Style Pepper Mill~Sold~

A Charming Antique French Silver Pepper Mill in the ‘Louis XV’ Style.

The lovely baluster shaped body is worked in a twisted scroll topped by a decoration of draped waves (in French we say Vagues Peignés as in ‘combed waves’) of silver on 2 separate registers, the upper register of the main body and lower register of the twisting cap.
The Finial or button (which comes off to enable the removal of the upper part in order to put the Pepper corns) is decorated by a twisted scroll similar to a beehive.

The 3 feet are in the ‘Rocaille’ style with a floral scroll as main décor.

The work is very fine and typical of the 1880/1890, beautiful and well rendered, and it remains functional as well!

It is in very good condition with only one very little dimple on the side.
We cannot give a precise silver weight simply because the interior mechanism is made of steel and un-removable.

The Hallmark is ‘Minerve’ 1 -1st title – 1838 -1919– Paris

The Makers Mark is unfortunately too erased to be read, so we would rather not guess!
