Charming Antique French Silver Melon Knives Set by Tétard Frères

A Charming Antique French Silver Set of 12 Melon Knives by Tétard Frères.

Decorated in the Louis XVI style this model is understated and practical.
The silver handle is elegantly lined with an acanthus leaf design, as well as a tulip chute.
The blade is in plated metal and ends in the typical curved and split tip which characterizes the Melon Knife.
Some still argue that it may also have served to eat lobster or even cheese, but most reports set it as being created specifically for Melons.
Set in their original box, they are a perfect addition to a set and easy to place due to their fuss free and elegant design.
They are in great condition.

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title (950/1000) – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for Maîtres Orfèvres TETARD Frères which was registered in 1903.
It shows a kettle with TF res underneath.
TETARD Frères took over from Edmond Tétard.
Their workshop was located 4 rue Beranger at the limit of the Marais part of Paris.
