A Charming French Silver Dinner Bell by ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ André MORAND.
A remnant of times gone by where upon just a light jingle of the Silver Bell the table would be cleared off or the next course brought in!!
A friend of ours always makes a joke on this , saying his family still has the bells, but no one ever answers anymore!
We use ours on a ‘light’ note to call our friends over from the living room after a pre meal drink, to join us in the dining room.
It is always a wonderful conversation piece.
This lovely little Bell shows a charming ‘Putto’ or Angel serving as its handle. Raising its chubby arms above its head and showcasing numerous grape bunches and leaves on its head, this ‘putto’ is actually a Baby Bacchus, the Roman God of Harvest and Wine, a direct inspiration from the Greek God Dionysus.
The bell itself is decorated with silver pearls and a garland of acanthus leaves.
The piece is in perfect condition! Charming!
The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title – 1838 -1919 – Paris
The Makers Mark is for André MORAND. It shows his two initials separated by a Cup.
The Mark was registered in 1907.
