A charming French Antique Silver ‘Egoiste’ Coffee Pot by ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ Charles HARLEUX.
This lovely French Antique Silver Coffee Pot is called ‘Egoïste’ or Selfish in French as it holds roughly 3/4 Espressos or 2 larger coffees but no more! Hence the connotation of Selfish!
The very simple and elegant body is baluster shaped and rests on a round base or piédouche..
The lid is slightly rounded and topped by Finial, or ‘Frétel’, is in the form of a spinning top, while the spout has a cute duck shape!
The handle is beautifully worked in a fluid and elegant scroll of Ivory
The piece is in perfect condition with no dents or marks. The handle does have a couple of minor lines which show on the pictures.
The width indicated above is taken between the handle and the end of the spout.
The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title (950/1000) – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris
The Makers Mark is for Charles HARLEUX, and was registered in 1891.
It shows the name HARLEUX spelled out and topped by an arc with a hammer below.
His shop was located 32 rue de Pastourelle in Paris.
