Delicate Antique French Silver ‘Hors D’œuvres’ Service Set by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Alexandre SCHORTGEN
The Hors D’œuvre Service Sets were usually sold separately from the ‘Ménagère’ and tailored to order.
One could choose between different implements on offer, ranging from several types of olive and gherkin spoons to pate slice or servers, butter knives and sardine forks.

This charming set is in the Louis XV Style with soft acanthus leaves and laurel garlands as well mistletoe decorating the handles.
The work on the spoons, tines and blades of all four pieces is absolutely lovely with acanthus leaves and mistletoe delicately cut out.

Starting by looking at the full picture of the implements (1st picture):
On the upper end we have a Foie Gras server which measures 7 inches.
Second from the top comes the Sardine fork, which stands at 7.1 inches long.
It is followed in turn by the Olive Spoon, which measures 7.1 inches.
The last piece is a Pate knife, which is 8.1 inches long.

All pieces are in great state! No marks or losses to the silver. The work on them is just exquisite!
They come in their original fitted box which is in excellent condition.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title (950/1000)- 1838 -1919– Paris

The Makers Mark is for Alexandre SCHORTGEN who registered his mark on October 5th 1901..
It shows his initials separated by a bell
He had his premises at 11 Rue d’Autancourt in Paris
