Charming Silver and Crystal Presentation Plate or ‘Compotier’ By Paul Massat
The bowl is made of white crystal worked intaglio style, with a lovely décor of grape vines
The pedestal is made of solid Silver entirely worked in ‘guillochage’ or lattice work, with a round base.
This lovely presentation plate can be used in a myriad way, from Fruit presentationits original purpose, to displaying muffins or cookies or even flowers!
The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title – 1838 -1911 – Paris
The Makers Mark is for ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Paul MASSAT and shows his last name. He took over from his father, Jean Baptiste Massat, after working for several years with his brother.
His mark was created in 1877 and cancelled in 1885.
His address was listed as, 15 rue Crussol in Paris in the 11ieme Arrondissement of Paris, very close to the Place de La République.
