An Absolutely Charming Antique French Silver And Crystal ‘Drageoir’ by ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ JE Coffinet.

In France we call them ‘Drageoir’ or ‘Confiturier’, but the only official name is a ‘Confiturier’ (Hence a Jam container), and it turns out that originally, they were only thought of, and used, as Ceremonial Sugar Bowls.
The details on this piece are just beautiful!
The main scene shows a young putto with butterfly wings, feeding a gorgeously detailed ram.
The details on the carved motif is exquisite, the details absolutely delightful.
The 2 side registers show a tall palmetto.
The lid is topped by a sweet parakeet.
The handles are delicately carved with acanthus leaves and a gerbera.
The square pedestal rests on four lions’ paws decorated with palmettos. The pedestal terrace is lined with laurel leaves.
The bowl insert is cobalt clear crystal and is in perfect condition.
It is an absolutely gorgeous work of art!

The Year Hallmark is Poinçon Au Vieillard (Or Michael Angelo Hallmark) (first title 950/1000) for Paris 1819-1838.

The Makers Mark is for JE Coffinet who registered his mark in 1814.
His workshop was located 46 rue des Lavandieres Ste Opportune, then 29 Place Dauphine, in Paris
