Delicate Antique French Silver ‘Bouillon’ or Covered Cup by Maître Orfèvre Jean Baptiste FOREST.

This Antique French Silver Covered Cup, rests on a round ‘Piédouche’ or Pedestal with a Palmetto wreath design surrounding its edge. The rim has the same palmetto, or ‘Rais de Coeur’ in French, design surrounding its edge.
The same palmettos ‘Rais de Coeur’ design is engraved on the edges of the presentation plate.
The top of the lid (or Frétel or again Finial) is exquisite with a pair of doves resting atop crossed arrows symbolizing faith and love.
The edges of the lid showcase a delicate fringe of silver pearls.
The handles are extremely delicate, and made of acanthus leaves scrolls.

This lovely piece which can be used in a variety of ways, originally used to hold a “Bouillon” or ‘consommé’ it can either be used to present condiments, or gravy, or fruits or as a sugar casket or to offer sweets at the end of a meal.

The Hallmark is 2ieme Coq for the Provinces -1st title (950/1000) – 1809 /1819 – Lyon

This lovely piece was created by Maitre Orfèvre Jean Baptiste FOREST.
The Mark shows his 3 initials surrounded by six silver dots.
He registered his mark in Lyon in 1798 and cancelled it in 1813.
He specialized in the ‘Partie de Table’ which means the more important pieces for table decoration.
His workshop was located 52 Quai de la Pêcherie in Lyon
