Delicate Antique French Silver ‘Hors D’œuvres’ Service Set by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Veuve Léontine COMPERE (or Ernest’s Compere’s widow..)
The Hors D’oeuvre Service Sets were usually sold separately from the ‘Ménagère’ and tailored to order.
One could choose between different implements on offer, ranging from several types of olive and gherkin spoons to pate slice or servers, butter knives and sardine forks.

This charming set is in the Louis XVI Style with soft acanthus leaf designs on the handles as well as tiny shells.
The work on the spoon and pate servers is absolutely beautiful with delicate acanthus leaves delicately cut out.
The Pate server and the Sardine Fork show delicate floral garlands carved into the blade and tines.

Starting by looking at the full picture of the implements (1st picture) upper end we have a pâté knife/server. (6.69 inches long)
Second from the left comes the Olive Spoon, which measures 5.9 inches.
It is followed in turn by the Sardine Fork, which is 5.9 inches long.
Last comes the pickled vegetable server, which stands at 5.8 inches long.
All handles are marked with the same SC monogram.

The Set also features a Cream Spoon with a gilded bowl which measures 8.66 inches and shows the same monogram and decoration.

All pieces are in great state! No marks or losses to the silver. The work on them is just exquisite!
They come in their original fitted box which is in excellent condition.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title (950/1000)- 1838 -1919– Paris

The Makers Mark is for Leóntine COMPERE – The Widow of Ernest COMPERE.
It shows a VE for ‘Veuve’ separated by the Initials EC by a Running Rabbit.
She took over after her husband’s death in 1880 and registered her mark in 1890.
She kept his premises at 790 rue Quincampoix in Paris.
