The Makers Mark is for GABERT & CONREAU.
Henry Gabert first met E Conreau in 1879. On July 1882 Henri Gabert decided to start his own business and registered his private mark.
At the end of 1899 he moved to 24 Rue Beaubourg in what is now the Marais area of Paris.
On January 25th 1901 he rejoined Conreau and had a new mark registered.
The mark shows a C and an R separated by a ‘Gabion’. The ‘gabion’ was a kind of woven basket, which could be made of reeds or more solid materials.
