Elegant Antique French Silver 1st Empire Ewer

A very Elegant and modern looking solid French Silver Ewer probably from the city of Besancon, from the turn of the 18th century, dated between 1798 and 1809.

Amphora shaped the ewer is linked to the handle by a spray of acanthus leaves.
The handle itself is delicately inlaid with silver wires, and done in the Grecian style, very geometrical and modern.

The round pedestal is decorated with an acanthus wreath.
The pourer is duck shaped and topped by a silver rose finial.

The design is pure and quite lovely perfectly at home on a classical or modern table.

The Hallmark is 2ieme Coq for the French Provinces, 1798 to 1809.

Interestingly we also have 2 marks that indicate the travels this lovely ewer took.
An import Mark in the shape of a V indicates the travels into Holland after 1814.
A second Mark in the shape of an E topped by a laurel wreath indicates import taxes taken upon arriving in Belgium in 1831.
Quite the traveler this beautiful ewer….

The Makers Mark shows a P in a circle.
We are still looking for the name of the Maker and will update the website as soon as we have it…
