Elegant Antique French Silver Bread Basket by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Victor BOIVIN.

This charming find is worked in the very elegant ‘Directoire’ Style.
The Basket is oval shaped with the upper register of the silver body showcasing a wave and scrolls design while the lower register displays gothic style arches.
The border of the bread basket is carved with a laurel leaf wreath.

It is a lovely object, simple yet refined, and easy to use.
You can use it to display bread of course, but also Danishes or muffins.

The Hallmark is Minerve -1st title (950/1000) – 1838 -1911 –Paris

The Makers Mark is for Victor BOIVIN and shows a V and a B with a star above and below.
The Mark was registered in 1897. Victor BOIVIN had taken over from his Father, Jules BOIVIN (who himself had picked up after Nicolas VAUTRIN) after he his retirement.
The BOIVIN specialized in ‘Pieces de Formes’, or larger pieces, as well as Cutlery.
The Boivin’s received several prizes during the world Fairs in 1867 and again in 1889.
His workshop was located 5 rue de Montmorency in Paris.
