Elegant Antique French Silver Small Ecuelles by Leroy and Piault

Elegant Antique French Silver Deep Appetizers Plates or Ecuelles, By Gustave Leroy and Jules Piault.

Showing two shell shaped handles in the 18th Century Style of ‘Ecuelles’ or deep serving dishes, these 5 pieces are in solid silver.
Originally used as wine coasters, they can be used in different ways;
As wine coasters of course, but also as fingers bowls, appetizer presentation plates, bread plates etc…

The silver weight makes each one quite stable and very practical.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1 -1st title – 950/1000 – for Paris 1838/1919

There is a double Maker’s Mark on these 5 pieces:
Each piece shows the Maker’s Mark for Louis-Gustave Leroy, and is stamped Jules Piault, Paris, 1884-1897
In 1884, Maître Orfèvre Gustave Leroy opened his workshop and Jules Piault became a shareholder, hence the name Leroy et Cie. In 1897 the workshop was taken over by Robert Linzeler.
Their workshop was located 68 rue de Turbigo in Paris
