Elegant Antique Silver Hors D’oeuvres Set By Coignet~Sold~

Elegant Antique French Silver ‘Hors D’oeuvres’ Service Set by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Louis COIGNET.

The Hors D’oeuvre Service Sets were usually sold separately from the ‘Ménagère’ and tailored to order.
One could choose between different implements on offer, ranging from several types of olive and gherkin spoons to pate slice or servers, butter knives and sardine forks.

This set is in the Louis XVI Style with a delicate pearl lining and acanthus leaf design on the handles.
The work on the spoons is charming with a clover leaf etched out on each of them.
The Pate server and the Sardine Fork show delicate Reeds carved into the blade and tines.

Starting by looking at the full picture of the implements (1st picture) on the upper side we have a sardine fork. (7 inches long)
Second from the top comes the Foir Gras server, which stands at 6.7 inches long.
It is followed in turn by the Olive Spoon, which measures 7 inches.
The last piece is a Pate knife, which is 7.5 inches long.
All pieces are in great state! No marks or losses to the silver, and very elegant.
They come in their original fitted box which is in excellent condition.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title (950/1000)- 1838 -1919– Paris

The Makers Mark is for ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Louis COIGNET and shows and L and a C with a crossed carving fork and knife set.
He was active between 1889 and 1893.
His address was listed as 14 rue Barbette in the 3rd arrondissement, very close to the Rue Vieille du Temple in the Marais district of Paris.
