Elegant Empire Style ‘Egoiste’ Silver Coffee Pot By C. Forgelot~Sold~

An Elegant Antique French Silver ‘Egoiste’ Coffee Pot by ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ Charles FORGELOT in the very refined Empire Style.

This coffee pot is called ‘Egoïste’ (Selfish in French) as it holds roughly 4 Espressos or 2/3 larger coffees but no more! Hence the connotation of Selfish!
It is just lovely, and the work on it is exquisite!

This Beautiful Baluster shaped Selfish Coffee Pot is decorated in the upper register by a light Laurel leaf garland while its mid section showcases a lovely relief of a series of swans with their wings outstretched resting on a tulip garland.
The handle is in Ebony and is Empire style shaped.

The spouts base is lined with larger laurel leaves while the pouring end takes the perfect shape of an eagle’s head complete with carved out feathers!
The Coffee Pot rests on a three lions paws linked to the body by Swans with outstretched wings standing on classic pedestals.

The Finial, or ‘Frétel’, is in the form of an acorn resting on a crown of leaves and pine cones.
The middle register of the lid shows a wreath of laurel leaves.

The Body is decorated by a Monogram spelling DDB.
This lovely piece is in great condition with only a very small mark above the monogram.
The Length given above is taken from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle.

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title (950/1000)- Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris

The Maker’s Mark is for Charles FORGELOT. His Mark shows a C and an F separated by a portable forge. His mark was registered in 1901 and cancelled in 1928.
