Elegant French Silver Coffee Pot By M Jacquart~Sold~

A Particularly Elegant Antique French Silver ‘Egoïste’ Coffee Pot by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Marc JACQUART in the refined Empire Style.

This coffee pot is called ‘Egoïste’ (Selfish in French) as it holds roughly 5 Espressos or 2/3 larger coffees but no more! Hence the connotation of Selfish!
The simplicity of its lines and the perfect balance of its design make it timeless!

The lovely Baluster shaped body is simply decorated by a coat of arms depicting two lions topped by a Marquis’ crown.
The coffee pot rests on three legs topped by a geometric seashell form.
The handle is in Rosewood and is delicately carved with a thumb rest and shaped Empire style.
The Finial, or ‘Frétel’, is in the form of a spinning top lined with silver pearls.

This lovely piece is in great condition, no dents, no marks.. Just pure perfection!

The Hallmark is 1er Coq -1st title (950/1000)- Hence 1798 -1809 – Paris

The Maker’s Mark is for Marc JACQUART. His Mark shows an M and a J separated by a Thyrsus, otherwise known as a sceptre surrounded by leaves. The symbol is of the attributes of Dionysus. Marc JACQUART registered his mark 1798, and cancelled it in September of 1809.
He practiced at the Hotel d’Aligre at 123, rue de Saint Honoré.
