Elegant set of 12 pc Antique French Gilt Silver Cheese or Dessert Knives, by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Denis LUNETEAU.
The Knives feature lean Mother Of Pearl Handles and Gilt Silver blades and Ferrules

The Mother of Pearl handles are intact.
The Gilt used on the silver parts of the knives does show some age wear on the blades.
The work is Louis XVI Style with the ferrules decorated with floral scrolls and acanthus leaves.

The knives were done by Denis LUNETEAU, who specialized only in knives at the time. During the earlier part of the 1800s, creation of knives was reserved for Master knife makers.
They come in their display case.

Denis LUNETEAU is famous for depositing on April 1854 a Patent for weldless ‘Viroles’ that were obtained by molding instead of reuniting two pieces by welding them.
His invention published alongside a colleague named Girardin, permitted the creation of many models with more details and less cost.
Each of our knives is stamped with both Luneteau’s Makers Mark and the knife maker reseller he worked with, E Peters.

The Hallmark is Minerva 2 – 2nd title (800/1000) – Hence 1819-1838 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for Denis LUNETEAU
LUNETEAU registered his mark on September 1st 1853 and cancelled it February 7th 1868.
His mark showed his initials surrounding a Crescent and a Vise
His workshop was located 83 rue du Temple in Paris.
