Exceptional Antique French Silver Sugar Casket by Antoine Cosson Corby

This exceptional French Antique Silver and Crystal Sugar Casket or Bowl, the work of Master silversmith Antoine Cosson Corby, is of an amazing size and weight.

The silver framework, which holds the cobalt blue crystal, is cut away to reveal the darker colour of the crystal, enhancing the whole effect and outlining the beautiful carvings. On each side of the bowl a medallion is surrounded by floral garlands and acanthus leaves.
The vessel rests on four floral arabesque.

The cover is cut out to reveal with a beautiful floral garland featuring vine leaves and daffodils.
The size of the bowl makes it ideal to either be used as a sugar bowl or serve as a condiment bowl, or even to showcase flowers or for the extra special treat of ‘Caviar’.
The cobalt crystal interior is original to the piece and is in superb condition. No chips or dents.

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for Maître Orfèvre Antoine Cosson Corby. Not a very prolific maker his pieces are always exceptional!
His Mark shows an A and a C topped by a three feather panache with a star underneath. His Mark was registered on January 9th 1851 and cancelled on February 7th 1879.
His workshop was located 41 Quai de l’Horloge in Paris.
