Exquisite Pair of Antique French Silver and Cobalt Crystal Salt Cellars in the ornate ‘Louis XVI’ Style by Henri Edmond CARPENTIER

The inserts are simple cobalt blue crystals bowls and are original to the piece.
The silver framework, which hold the cobalt blue crystal, is cut away to reveal the darker colour of the crystal, enhancing the whole effect and outlining the beautiful carvings.
Two main panels showcase two little Cupids with spread out wings holding a medallion originally supposed to receive a monogram. Roses and fruits garlands surround the main figure, while two curved silver pilasters separate the panels.
The side registers show two floral and fruit garlands tied with a charming silver bow.
The upper register is lined with a tulips chute, and the lower one with a tulip line.
The body of the two cellars rest on four little feet’s decorated with acanthus leaves.

The two cellars are in superb condition, with no scratches or marks.

The Hallmark or Title is 1er Coq (or 1st Rooster) 2nd title (800/1000) for Paris 1798 /1809
The piece is also marked with a middle guarantee.

The Makers Mark is for Henri-Edmond CARPENTIER. The Mark shows an HEC topped by a blackbird.
Carpentier’s mark was registered in 1798 and cancelled in 1799 which puts this lovely fully in the 18th century.
His offices were located 9 Rue du Cimetiere Saint Nicolas in Paris.
