Gorgeous 18th Century Silver Chocolate Pot by Charles Duchesne

A Rare and gorgeous Antique French Silver Chocolate Pot and Stirrer dating to 1739 by Maître Orfèvre Charles Duchesne in Paris.

Standing on three small curved feet this lovely piece is beautifully proportioned.
The body is plain but decorated by a double coat of arms topped by a Counts Crown. We are still trying the decipher the coat of arms and will add it to the description as soon as we do have it!.
The spout is decorated with Rocaille on its lower part and finished with a silver bud.
The lateral handle is in mahogany ad in perfect shape, so is the stirrer or foam creator.

The piece is wonderful shape with no losses or chocs and is quite heavy. It comes from a Wonderful collection in Paris that was started in the 1970 and went on until very recently.
A lovely heritage and a wonderful date of creation on this beautiful piece, fully under louis XV!

The Hallmarks are under the Fermiers Généraux régime (the Old Regime) for the city of Paris, always a treat for collectors:

You have the Poinçon de la Marque showing a Crowned A for Paris used under Fermier Général Louis Robin, from October 1st 1738, until September 30th 1744

Photo # 6: You have the Poinçon de Jurande or Lettre Date, showing a crowned Z for Paris used starting September 30th 1739 and until November 28th 1740.

You have the Discharge Marque for large items, showing a horned cow’head facing right, used as a discharge Mark used under Fermier Général Louis Robin, from October 1st 1738, until September 30th 1744

You have the Makers Mark for Charles DUCHESNE showing his two initials separated by an oak tree with 2 reserve dots above, all topped by a crowned Fleur de Lys.
We first find Charles Duchesne apprenticing under Maître Orfèvre Paul Leriche in Paris on December 22nd 1723. He is under contract and listed as being 15 years old!
On September 24th 1738 he is received as Master Silversmith with Alexandre de Roussy as his godfather.
He is listed as residing and working rue de Gesvres.
On August 15th 1753 he passes away and is buried a St Jacques de la Boucherie in Paris.
His widow Marie Geneviève Antoinette Trutel, takes her place at the workshop and will remain in business until 1782. She passes away on November 18th 1786
