Gorgeous 18th Century Silver Oil and Vinegar Cruet Holder By P Flament

An absolutely gorgeous 18th Century French Silver Oil and Vinegar Cruet Holder by Pierre Flament.

Set with its original stoppers it was created the traditional Navette style favored in the 18th century.
The cruet rests on 4 scrolled feet with acanthus leaves decorations.
The inside of the basin is engraved with vine branches, roses and garlands, a very rare detail.

One of the flask holders and one of the topper holders are decorated with olive branches, while the other elements are decorated with beautifully carved vines.
The stoppers, are chiseled with rocaille details, leaves and scrolls.

The Cruet comes with two cut glass 18th century flasks or cruets.
The sheer silver weight of the cruet holder makes this piece a very rare find. Created under Louis XV, it is a true collector’s piece!

As usual the fact that the piece bears the Fermiers Généraux Marks used under the Old Regime in the city of Paris is what makes it special:

On July 26th 1734 he registers his Makers Mark, with Denis Desportes as his godfather and guarantor.
His Makers Mark shows his initials topped by a Crowned Fleur de Lys, with two dots and a flame.
We find him first settled Rue de la Parcheminerie, then on August 1748 he is listed rue Saint Eloy.
On December 22nd 1759 he is listed rue de la Draperie.
On December 10th 1767 the guards declare he has canceled his Mark.
