A Gorgeous and very rare Antique French Silver Set Of 12 Rocaille Style Menu Holders!

Incredible and so rare to come by!
These 12 menu holders show ‘vagues peignées’ (or painted waves) as well as floral scrolls and acanthus leaves swirling around a cartouche which is still waiting for its owners monogram.
The are held in the back by floral scrolls doublings as stands.
Made entirely out of silver they have slots in the back which allows sliding the menus.
Though the Rocaille Style movement started under Louis XV there was a large revival of the movement in France during under Napoleon III.

These particular Menu holders have an incredible added feature….A little hollow silver vase is included behind the cartouche permitting to put in a flower or a spring of holly for your holiday table…
It is sincerely the first time we have seen this…

These lovely menu holders will be perfect for a final touch on a formal dinner for the holiday season.
They come in their original presentation shop from a shop in Milan.

The Hallmark is ‘Poinçon Tete de Mercure’ or Mercury Head Hallmark which was used from 1838 to 1919 for French Silver being exported.

The Makers Mark is that of TETARD Freres and shows a T with Fres on the side with a kettle on top.
The Mark was registered in 1903.
