Gorgeous Silver And Crystal Sugar Casket By Harleux~Sold~

This gorgeous Antique French Silver and Crystal Sugar Casket or bowl is by Maitre Orfèvre Jean Baptiste HARLEUX
The silver framework, which holds the cobalt blue crystal, is cut away to reveal the darker colour enhancing the whole effect and outlining the beautiful carvings, in the Louis XVI style.
On each side of the bowl a lovely silver bow surrounds a medallion showing a monogram engraved with a J and P
The Medallion is flanked by a gorgeous wine leaves & grapes silver garland.
The Bowl rests on four feet’s carved with wine leaves.The leaves are extremely delicately rendered probably one of the best examples I have seen.
The handles are geometric and decorated with acanthus leaves overlays.

The cover is decorated with round gadroons and beautifully carved garlands of wines leaves and grapes while the finial is made of three morning glory flowers resting on a crown of wine leaves.
The ensemble is just lovely!

The cobalt crystal interior is original to the piece and in perfect condition.
It is in superb condition. No chips or dents, no losses to the silver décor.

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title (950/1000) – Hence 1838 to 1919– Paris

The Makers Mark is for Jean Baptiste HARLEUX and features his last name spelled out and topped by a star with an arc below.
He registered his mark in 1834 and later passed on his work to his son and grandson Charles Harleux.
His shop was located 15 rue du Grand Hurleur in Paris.
