Gorgeous Antique Silver And Vermeil Coffee Set by Lapar~Sold~

An absolutely Gorgeous French Antique Silver & Vermeil Selfish Coffee Pot and Sugar Bowl Set by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ L LAPAR, in the refined Louis XVI style.

The coffee pot is called ‘Egoïste’ in French as it holds roughly 4 Espressos or 2 larger coffees but no more! Hence the connotation of Selfish!
The work on the 2 pieces is absolutely exquisite! This set belonged to a well known collector back in Paris who unfortunately passed away a few years ago.
We are adding to this set lovely Sugar Tongs coming from the same estate.
All three pieces are in Solid Silver covered with 18 carat gold which is intact! We definitely fell in love with this gorgeous trio!

The Selfish Coffee pot is delicately carved with gadroons on the lower part of the body, and rests on a round pedestal decorated with laurel leaves.
The same laurel leaf motif is again found on the upper part of the coffee pot.
As usual with LAPAR’s beautiful pieces, the spout is particularly ornate, showcasing a gorgeous décor of delicately chiselled acanthus leaves that totally cover its underside. The lid is slightly domed and is beautifully worked with carved acanthus leaves. The finial is in the shape of an opening flower typical of the Louis XVI style. The handle is made of ivory delicately chiselled with an acanthus leaf.
The Coffee pot is 5.7 inches high and 5.5 inches long (to the curve of the handles), with a width of 2.9 inches.

The sugar bowl shows the exact same décor, except for the handles which are done in the ‘Filets et Rubans Croisés’ style (or ‘ribbon tied reeds’) typical again of the Louis XVI style. They are linked to the body of the sugar bowl by a lovely spread of acanthus leaves.
The sugar bowl is 4.1 inches high and 4.5 inches long (to the curve of the handles), with a width of 3.3 inches.

The Sugar tongs are decorated with a lovely swan, cornucopias and grape leaves. The tongs are 4.5 inches long.

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for L LAPAR which was registered on February 12th 1878 and cancelled on July 5th 1897.
