In France we call them ‘Drageoir’ or ‘Confiturier’, but the only official name is a ‘Confiturier’ (Hence a Jam container), and it turns out that originally they were only thought of, and used, as Ceremonial Sugar Bowls.

The ‘Medicis’ vase shaped body has 4 figural ‘Tableaux’ showing Cupids playing the Lyra –while riding astride gorgeously rendered Panthers or Leopards. The spots on the coats of the panthers are particularly well executed.

The upper and lower register of the body show lovely garlands of grapes bunches, while the handles end in Cornucopias and are laced with palmettos.
The pedestal is decorated with foliage and it rests of four lion’s paws surmounted by acanthus leaves.

The cover is decorated by a garland of grapes bunches and wine leaves while the Frétel (or Finial) is in the form of a lovely Swan stretching out his wings while resting on a crown of acanthus leaves.

The bowl insert is white crystal with facettes, it is original and in perfect condition.
The piece is in brilliant condition no losses or marks.
