Gorgeous XVIII Century Drawing Of the Immaculate Conception~Sold~

Gorgeous French XVIII Century School Ink Drawing of the Immaculate Conception.

The Drawing shows a masterful execution typical of the XVIII Century in France
Highlighted by what was to be its preparatory grid which was not erased, or ‘mise au carreau’ in French, the work is perfectly balanced.
The Mise au Carreau was used to do a preparatory canvas prior to painting the final work on a church or a mansion’s wall.

The Artist’s strokes are incredibly masterful, rendering, with just a line of ink, full life to the figure of the Virgin Mary and infusing her with brightness and serenity.

The lower register depicts a saint kneeling in rapture in front of the Holy Mother.

The Virgin Mary stands on moon crescent with twelve stars crowning her.
The proportions are perfect and the effect is truly beautiful.

The right upper register shows 3 cherubs gazing at the Holy Mother in awe.

The drawing is showcased in an absolutely beautiful XIX century gilt wood in the Barbizon style with incredible work and beautiful patina, just amazing! The perfect frame for this beautiful work of art.
