Important Suite of 4 Gilt Silver Candleholders by Demarquet Frères

Important Suite of 4 tall Gilt Solid Silver Candle Holders in the Louis XIV Style by Maîtres Orfèvres Demarquet Frères.

The 4 pieces are composed of a triangular base that is linked to the upper shaft by a silver screw.
The Ionic style shaft features beautiful floral scrolls and a gadrooned edge on the bobèche which can hold the Pillar Candle.
The lower part of the shaft showcases a gadrooned vase surrounded by three gorgeous ronde-bosse worked, winged cherubs’ heads, done in exquisite details.
The triangular base rests on 3 feet decorated with removable acanthus scrolls. The base is completely decorated with rosettes and festoons. In an incredible workmanship, all pieces are removable for better cleaning or replacement.

The silver is heavily gilded in 24 carat gold, It only shows signs of wear on a few part of the shafts.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1 for 1st title Silver (950/1000) for Paris 1838/1919
The piece also show the Mark of the jeweler who sold them, François Lunardi.

The Makers Mark is for Maîtres Orfèvres Demarquet Frères
The shows the last name separated from Frères by a salamander.
Their mark was registered in Paris, on February 7th, 1868 and cancelled on February 6th 1890.
Their workshop was located 44 rue des Gravilliers.
The brothers inherited the workshop from their mother who had taken it up after her husband’s death and who had registered her own Mark on January 22nd 1863 and cancelled it in 1868.
Their main production were religiously related Items which grace many museums today.
