Intricate Antique Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon by Josan~Sold~

A delicate Gilded or ‘Vermeil’ Antique French Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon by François Pamphile JOSAN.

The bowl of the spoon is in beautiful ‘reperce’ motif showing delicate floral scrolls cut out.
The work on the floral scrolls is extremely delicate and very well rendered, typical of Jozan’s handywork. The other particularity is the octagonal form, which is not often found in Sugar Sifters.
It is also a signature style for Jozan who specialized in spoon making, and found mostly in the first half of the 19th century.

The handle is beautifully detailed with a draped medallion on both ends. The end of the handles is absolutely gorgeous with a fruit and flower garland standing atop a cherub’s chubby face.
The work is incredibly refined and the piece is in gorgeous condition. ‘The Vermeil’ is intact.
Lovely to use to sprinkle sugar over freshly cut fruits!

The width given above is that of the spoon’s bowl.

The Hallmark is Minerva 2 -2nd title (800/1000) – Hence 1838 -1919 – Paris.

The Makers Mark shows the JOZAN spelled out under two crossed oars.
It was registered by François Pamphile JOZAN in 1836 and cancelled in 1847. Jozan had spoon making as his specialty and was well known for his delicate work. His offices were located 19 rue Simon Le Franc in Paris
