Lovely Silver And Vermeil Tea Service Set By Coignet~Sold~

A lovely 14 pieces Antique French Vermeil (or 18 carat gilded silver) Tea service set by Maîitre Orfèvre Louis COIGNET.
Very popular in the Napoleon III times this consisted of all the elements needed in order to enjoy your tea in style.
This particular set is worked in the Louis XVI design showing crossed ribbons and roses as well as delicate foliage scrolls.
All pieces are marked with a JCB Monogram.

You have your 12 spoons decorated at the edge of the spoon itself by a lovely design of acanthus leaves and rose buds which appears again circling the medallions engraved on the handle.
The we have beautifully carved sugar tongs with the ends sculpted into intricate Lions paws.
Finally a beautiful tea strainer with the hollow end carved with roses again and delicate leaf patterns completes the set.

The set is presented in its original box which has aged on the outside but is well preserved inside.
It is in remarkable condition with the gilt barely lightened on the spoons.
Measurements given above are that of the spoons. The Strainer is 5.2′ long. The Sugar tongs is 4.3′ long.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title (950/1000)- 1838 -1919 – Paris
Making it all the rarer as Vermeil was usually applied on 2nd Title silver

The Makers Mark is for ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Louis COIGNET and shows and L and a C separated by a crossed carving fork and knife set.
Louis COIGNET active between 1889 and 1893.
His address was listed as 14 rue Barbette in the 3rd arrondissment, very close to the Rue Vieille du Temple in the Marais district of Paris.
