Gorgeous 18th Century Antique French Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon By Maitre Orfevre Jean Henri OERTEL.

A Lovely and Delicate Antique French Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon dating back to the mid 1700s by OERTEL.
The Sugar and Olive Spoon Makers used different styles between Paris and the Provinces.
Paris worked mostly with 5 different styles, whereas the Provinces experimented a little more and produced designs to offered more variety.

In our spoon we see several cut out works that are called ‘Feuilles a Fourches et Tulipes’ as well as simple swirling tear drop shaped form that was called and ‘Iris’
The whole effect being that the bowl of the spoon is in beautiful ‘reperce’ motif imitating a Rose Window cut out.
The handle is simply and elegantly double lined.

The Sifter Spoon is in gorgeous condition.
The design is typical of the early to mid 18th century.
Lovely to use to sprinkle sugar over fresh strawberries per example!
This lovely piece is currently our oldest presented…

The width given above is that of the spoon’s bowl.
