Lovely Antique French Gilt Silver And Crystal Drageoir With Swans~Sold~

Lovely Antique French Silver & Vermeil ‘Drageoir’ with Swans.

In France we call them ‘Drageoir’ or ‘Confiturier’, but the only official name is a ‘Confiturier’ (Hence a Jam container), and we can add that, originally, they were only thought of, and used, as Ceremonial Sugar Bowls.
This Drageoir is entirely covered in 18 carat gold or ‘Vermeil’

The Main part of the Drageoir consists in a beautiful crystal which is intact.
The square pedestals is lined with a floral scroll and rests on four winged lions paws.

The handles consist in two Majestic Swans rising out of an acanthus cornucopia. The details on the swans are staggeringly beautiful! The heads, eyes and beaks are just amazing!

The ‘Frétel’ (or finial) consists in a wreath of roses rising out of cornucopias, resting on a bed of acanthus leaves.
The oval shape of this Drageoir is really what makes it unique.

The Hallmark is Poinçon au Vieillard 1er Titre (950/1000) used in Paris between the years 1819 and 1838.

The Makers Mark is too erased for us to identify it…My guess would be D Garreau.
