Lovely Antique French Silver Drageoir By Fray~Sold~

A Lovely Rocaille Style Antique French Silver and Crystal Drageoir by Maitre Orfèvre Martial FRAY.

In France we call them ‘Drageoir’ or ‘Confiturier’ – But the only official name is a ‘Confiturier’ (Hence a Jam container), and it turns out that originally they were only thought of, and used, as Ceremonial Sugar Bowls.

Contrary to many Drageoirs, here the Crystal urn is completely apparent and elegantly wheel cut into ‘facettes’ and emerald shapes.
The body is Baluster shaped and rests on a solid silver pedestal carved with floral scrolls and rosettes.
The square terrace of the pedestal rests on lion’s paws.
The Handles are made of a delicate twirl imitating a twisting acanthus leaf.
The cover is dome shaped and lined with silver pearls, while the finial is in the shape of a gerbera flower resting on crown of leaves.
The upper rim showcases acanthus leaves and shells.

The piece is in superb shape! No losses and no marks.
The crystal urn does not come apart hence our giving you a total weight for the piece.

The Hallmark is ‘Poinçon Minerve’ -1st title – 1838 -1919 – Paris
