Lovely Antique Silver Bonbons Service Set By Barrier~Sold~

A Lovely Antique French Silver and Vermeil ‘Bonbons’ (Candy) Service Set by Charles BARRIER in the Louis XVI Style.

Though called a Bonbons Service Set, these pieces were more considered as dessert service sets and could come with several different implements.
This complete set is in its original box, which is in excellent condition.

The pieces are etched in the Louis XVI style with a ribbon wrapped reed motif on the handles.
The loveliest part is the work on the spoons and forks bodies which are decorated with cut outs designs highlighted by flowing ribbons.
The Gold wash is ‘Amati’ or lightly dulled in order to give it a softer touch.

Starting by looking at the full picture of the implements, on the left hand side we have delicate a delicate Candied Fruit fork, measuring 5.51 inches long.
The second implement is a Fondant Spoon; Fondants were a kind of light melting candy; it measures 5.51 inches.
The 3rd implement is a delicate Sugar tongs which is 4.33 inches long.
The 4th is ‘Bonbons’ Spoon or Candy Spoon, showcasing again the delicate ‘repercé’ work on the body of the spoon; it measures 5.51 inches long
The last implement is a miniature cake server it stands 6.29 inches long.

All pieces are in great state! The ‘Vermeil’ wash is intact.
They come in their original presentation box, which is in good condition.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title – 1838 -1911 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for Maitre Orfèvre Charles BARRIER and shows an C and a B separated by a Gaiter topped by a Star.
The mark was registered in 1905 in Paris, and was cancelled in 1923.
