Lovely Antique Silver Milk Jug By Jean Francois Veyrat

A lovely Antique French Silver Milk Jug or ‘Pot à Lait’ by Maître Orfèvre Jean Francois VEYRAT.
The design of this lovely piece is very pure, with the baluster shaped body decorated by a delicate floral lambrequin resting on an ‘Amati’ base.

The ‘Amati’ technique consisted of a method used by the ‘Maître Orfèvre’ to render part of the silver ‘dull’ or matt in order to bring out the Design with the remaining shiny part, as is shown on our piece.
The matt aspect was obtained by carving minuscule dots or points on the parts one wanted to dull out.
The handle of the Jug is carved out of several Acanthus leaves attached to one another.
The piece is in very good state apart from a very very light dimple at the bottom.
The jug rests on a round pedestal.

Though originally intended to be a milk Jug, its size can also be very convenient to use for pouring out Maple Syrup during a gourmet breakfast!
