Lovely Oil Painting of A Cow Herd By Edmond de Schampheleer

Lovely Oil Painting of Cows near a pond by Edmond de Schampheleer.

Edmond De Schampheleer (1824-1899) , was a Belgian landscape painter and engraver.
He was particularly known for his lovely realistic approach to painting taking his cue from the Plein Air techniques of the Barbizon School.
He combined their techniques with large scale painting in his studio.

De Schampheleer traveled extensively in search of subject matters and motifs. He visited Bavaria, Netherland and France where he stayed in Barbizon for a while.
However he preferred the Oosterbeek region in Gelderland and developed a style more and more influenced by the 17th Century Dutch painters.
He also favored the Genk area, where with Theodore Baron, Theodore Fourmois, and Frank Courtens he was part of what would be known as the Genk School.
He was also a close friend of Demond de Pratere.

In this oil on wood panel painting, the tones used are very soft and the sky is wonderfully full of nuances, typical of the low Dutch countries. There is a lot of serenity and softness in the depiction of a simple country sceneā€¦
