Lovely Pair of Silver Pepper Mills In the Rocaille Style~Sold~

A beautiful and rare Pair of Antique French Silver Pepper Mills in the ‘Rocaille’ Style.

Rather rare to come by as a pair, these striking Pepper Mills are worked entirely in the Rocaille Style on their baluster shaped bodies.
They both share the exact same decoration of draped waves (in French we say Vagues Peignés as in ‘combed waves’) of silver on 4 separate registers (Upper register, Top of the main body, Middle of the main body, and finally surrounding the pedestal) and are Baluster Shaped.
The Finials or buttons (which twist off to enable the removal of the upper part in order to put the Pepper corns) are decorated with a Rosette.

The Work is very fine and typical of the 1880/1890, beautiful and well rendered, and they remain functional as well!

They are in very good condition with only one of the two showing 3 very little dimples on the side.
We cannot give a precise silver weight simply because the interior mechanism is made of steel and un-removable.
There is a slight difference between both pieces with one being very very slightly taller then the other one, testimony to the hand work involved.

The Hallmark is ‘Minerve’ 1 -1st title – 1838 -1919– Paris

The Makers Mark is unfortunately too erased to be read.
